After the news broke about the US elections, I was numb and very distressed and all that day, a heavy, sad weight hung over me. It felt like I was waiting for something bad to happen. I went on TikTok that evening and the sheer number of women all around the world who were feeling the same way was staggering. It felt like we were united in our anger and fear and rejection and it felt almost supernatural in its intensity and scale. I can’t help, but think again of the Witch Wound, a subconscious collective trauma that can cause us to withdraw away from our true power as a fear response. This is what I was doing, but the women of TikTok are continuing
to fight, and so shall I.
Yesterday, out of the blue, I came across this quote by Alicia H. Puleo, a philosopher who said, “…. women have attained self-awareness and have set about overcoming the barriers that for centuries have been raised against their full inclusion in the field of paid work, culture and politics. Their achievement of emancipation goals can be delayed through diverse strategies but it will be impossible to impede it in the long term”.
In solidarity 💪
